The New Orleans Saints improved to 7-0 last night with a solid win over a division rival in the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans took down Atlanta by a score of 35-27, propelled to victory by the three interceptions forced by their defense. Drew Brees was nearly flawless and running back Pierre Thomas repeatedly gashed the Atlanta defense for solid gains on the ground. The Falcons hung tough, though, as Michael Turner looked like he did for much of last season, gaining 151 yards on just 20 carries. The Falcons also added a defensive touchdown, but were unable to secure the victory in the end.
The Saints are one of the two best teams in the NFL and it wouldn’t be too difficult to argue that they’re the top squad in the league. Drew Brees is one of the top three quarterbacks in the league and he’s having another great season. The biggest changes from last season to this season, though, are the running game and the defense. Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell have infused the ground game with life, while defensive coordinator Greg Williams and underrated pickups like Darren Sharper have paid major dividends on the defensive side of the ball. Can you say Super Bowl Saints?
