Marshall Joining Cutler?

June 23, 2009

While the Bears recently appeared to be out of the running for wide receiver Brandon Marshall, perhaps things are a bit different now that Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler has weighed in on the topic.  “I played with Brandon for three years and I think he’s one of the best receivers in the NFL,” Cutler said of Marshall, who recently requested a trade from the Denver Broncos.  ”I think he can be one of the greatest ever to play.  He’s big and fast, and can do everything you want him to do, on the field and in the meeting room.  I don’t know what we’re going to do.  That’s up to the guys upstairs.  If we make a run at him, we make a run at him.”

Cutler obviously is not calling for the team to trade for the disgruntled pass-catcher, but he did show that the prospect of a reunion with Marshall interested him.  Marshall eclipsed 100 catches in each of the last two seasons, both of which he played with Cutler.  Cutler was moved to Chicago in a trade earlier this offseason and Marshall could follow the same path.  Marshall wants to get paid the kind of money a receiver of his caliber deserves and it looks like his relationship with the Broncos has soured.
