Landing Spots For Marshall

June 19, 2009

Brandon Marshall isn’t saying much about his current holdout and his recent request for a trade, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about it.  Marshall is a legitimate number one wide receiver and would greatly help any team that would acquire him. Earlier this week, we mentioned five potential destinations for the wideout, Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Chicago and both New York teams.  It appears that the Bears have taken themselves out of the running already, but the other four potential landing spots remain.  In Baltimore, Marshall would be paired up with an emerging star in quarterback Joe Flacco, whose strong arm would be even more dangerous with Marshall on board.  Marshall could be paired with Mark Clayton for the long-term and learn from Derrick Mason in the short-term.

The Jets could really use a wide receiver, and they’d surely love to pair Marshall with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.  The Giants definitely covet a receiver of Marshall’s size to help replace Plaxico Burress.  We’ve seen how Eli Manning likes to throw to a big target that he can trust, something that Marshall could definitely be.  The Bucs seem like the least likely team to land Marshall, but don’t count them out.  They’re probably going to start Byron Leftwich this season and try to win some games; pairing Marshall with Antonio Bryant could really help net some victories.
