Marshall Wants Out of Denver

June 16, 2009

It appears that yet another star player wants out of Denver.  Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall has reportedly requested a trade from the team, citing medical trust issues and the desire for a pay raise.  Marshall’s contract certainly does not match the level of production that the receiver has given the Broncos, as he’s eclipsed 100 catches and 1200 yards receiving in each of the past two seasons and is due roughly $500,000 in 2009.  The Broncos have not commented on the situation and are probably trying to sort things out in an effort to avoid trading another one of their best players.

The team was already forced to ship quarterback Jay Cutler out of town this offseason.  “The Marshall situation is another issue for new Denver coach Josh McDaniels,” writes ESPN’s Bill Williamson.  ”The former New England offensive coordinator took over for the fired Mike Shanahan after 14 years.  McDaniels’ tenure in Denver got off to a rocky start when Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler was traded to Chicago.”  If Marshall leaves as well, the team will have lost arguably their two best players in a single offseason.  Marshall, despite having his off-the-field issues, is a supremely talented receiver with great size and speed for the position at only 25 years of age.
