The Washington Redskins made a major splash on the first day of free agency, signing defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to a seven-year, $100 million contract that could pay him as much as $115 million with incentives.  Haynesworth was the prize of the free agent class this offseason and it was widely thought that he would receive a record contract.  Leave it to Washington owner Daniel Snyder to throw boatloads of money at arguably the best defensive player in the game.  The Redskins also signed cornerback DeAngelo Hall to a $56 million deal, making their desire to win now more evident than ever.

In other news, the Houston Texans have traded quarterback Sage Rosenfels to the Minnesota Vikings for a fourth-round draft choice.  Rosenfels is expected to compete for the Vikings’ starting quarterback job and is probably the favorite to win it.  He’s looked good when he’s had the chance to start throughout his career.  He may be a bit turnover prone, but with a running game as fantastic as Minnesota’s, he’ll likely be less inclined to take risks with the football.  It’s also being reported that the New York Jets have made a $40 million offer to linebacker Bart Scott and the New England Patriots have signed running back Fred Taylor.
