Gil Brandt Also Sees a Colts Win

January 31, 2007

Count Gil Brandt, the ex-GM of the Cowboys, among the legion of experts who foresee a Colts win on Sunday against the Bears.  Brandt broke down the different units that will be facing each other during the game, and it seems that Brandt likes the Colts in just about every facet.

The only caveat is if the Bears can make use of their tremendous advantage on special teams.  Devin Hester is a threat every time he touches the ball, and if he can break loose, the Bears may have a chance.  You have a chance as well - to go to the game.  StubHub.com has Super Bowl tickets available for you.

Sanders Brings the Lumber to Colts’ Defense

January 31, 2007

The Colts defense was much-maligned this season for its inability to stop the run.  Many reasons were offered for this problem, ranging from the team being “soft” to missing players.  Perhaps the injury excuse holds some water, as since S Bob Sanders has returned, the Colts have not allowed a team to have a big game on the ground, allowing only 73 yards per game rushing in the playoffs.

Sanders may stand only 5″8′, but he’s as physical as any safety in the league, and that attitude is contageous.  Whether that makes all the difference against the Bears’ running attack remains to be seen, but you can see it for yourself if you go  to StubHub.com and choose from the remaining available Super Bowl tickets.

CBS Experts See a Colts Win Coming

January 31, 2007

As they do each week, CBS Sportsline’s panel of experts weighed in on their predictions for the Super Bowl this Sunday.  Although their respective records are a mixed bag, 4 of the 6 writers clearly see the Colts winning.  That seems to be the case in general, as the Colts are around a 7-point favorite for the game.

That doesn’t mean that the outcome isn’t in question, though.  This is a game that’s littered with a history of underdogs pulling the upset, and the Bears don’t have to apologize to anyone for being here.  If you’d like to see how these predictions pan out, go to StubHub.com and grab some Super Bowl tickets.

Is Dungy Coaching for the Hall of Fame?

January 31, 2007

Tony Dungy has spoken often in the past about not wanting to coach much past the age of 50.  He’s 51 now, and he’s had an extremely difficult year in terms of his personal life, including the tragic loss of his son.  However, if Dungy decides to retire after the game Sunday and he wins a Super Bowl, there is a growing groundswell for his inclusion in the Hall of Fame.

Dungy’s record speaks for itself, as he turned around the Buccaneers, who were a joke at the time he took over, and brought the Colts to prominence afterwards.  With a Super Bowl trophy to his credit, he’d have all the statistics, the necessary respect of the voters and the crowning achievement he needs - a championship.

If you want to see how this plays out, go to StubHub.com and select the available Super Bowl tickets.

Dungy’s Tactical Skills May Be on Display Sunday

January 31, 2007

When football fans hear the name, “Tony Dungy,” many images come to mind.  Class.  Style.  Integrity.  Pure leader of men. Those are just a few, but what that list doesn’t include, and it’s a somewhat-unfair exclusion, is Dungy’s skill with the X’s and O’s of the game.

There are many reasons for this reputation, and perhaps Dungy’s unassuming nature is most responsible.  He also preaches and teaches basic schemes on defense, but that’s the same scheme that has won many Super Bowls, and few offenses have ever figured it out.

If you’d like to see Dungy’s game plan unfold live Sunday, Super Bowl tickets are still available at StubHub.com.

Manning Not the Only One Looking to Shed a Reputation

January 31, 2007

All we heard about as the Colts marched through the AFC playoff field was how QB Peyton Manning had a “choker” label to overcome.  Whether that label was fair or not, he has definitely accomplished that with his stirring comeback against the Patriots in the AFC title game.

However, as is always the case with this future Hall of Fame player, there’s another member of the Colts who has a rep to change, and that’s the great Marvin Harrison.  Harrison simply hasn’t put up numbers in the playoffs that are on par with his historic regular season statistics, and he needs to have a big game to not only help the Colts win but also to cement his status as one of the greatest WR’s of all time.

If you’d like to see how he does, go to StubHub.com and choose from the availalbe Super Bowl tickets.

What Will Make this Super Bowl Memorable?

January 31, 2007

As experts line up to break down every aspect of every play and player for each team in the Super Bowl, one thing that is somewhat overlooked is whether or not something truly unforgettable will happen that will instantly qualify the game for instant classic status.

CNNSI’s Don Banks has listed his predictions for what will emblazen this game in the memories of viewers forever, and although some of them are far-fetched to say the least, if a big-time collision, a game-turning trick play or bad weather become part of the proceedings, Super Bowl XLI will go down in history.

If you’d like to be there to witness something unforgettable, StubHub.com still has Super Bowl tickets available.

The Super Bowl - The Ultimate Reality Show

January 31, 2007

There are few writers more clever than Frank Deford.  He’s always been able to draw parallels between sports and society, and he’s done it again with his pre-Super Bowl piece for CNNSI.  Deford’s parallel centers on the similarities between the Super Bowl and reality TV.

The reason, according to his opinion, that the Super Bowl gets enormous ratings is because it’s a one-game elimination as opposed to a series of several games, as is the case with baseball, basketball and hockey.  That makes upsets much more likely, but the concept of “elimination” is the idea behind reality TV.

If you’d like to see who gets “eliminated” on Sunday, you can still go to the game be logging onto StubHub.com and grabbing some Super Bowl tickets.

Colts Run Defense Gets Back to Basics

January 31, 2007

The Colts had by far the worst run defense in the NFL this year.  They allowed an average of 173 yards on the ground per game, which makes it almost amazing that they managed to even get into the playoffs.  However, since the playoffs began, the Colts have allowed only 73 yards per game on the ground, which is an amazing improvement.

How did they do it?  Two reasons.  One is good old-fashioned shame.  The Colts got very tired of hearing that they were soft, couldn’t stop the run and were no match for physical teams.  The other was that Tony Dungy got the team back to the simple concepts of gap control that are a basic part of his defensive scheme.  Obviously, it has worked.

If you’d like to see the Colts run defense face the ultimate test on Sunday, you can still do so in-person by choosing Super Bowl tickets from StubHub.com.
